The addition of movie!

An environmentalist at heart, I am always concerned about the well being of this fragile planet. Currently, I am working on a curriculum development project for my HT 100 course on composting. Why is there this need to compost? We are generating waste today at a rate that far exceeds a place to put our waste. There is talk of "Zero Waste" generation, recycling, composting. There is a need to consider all of these options as our population continues to expand, our waste generation continues to increase and our planet's space becomes used up.

Amy, Great job adding the movie!

I share your concern about waste. I think I got this from my strong Yankee roots, but fight the capitalist cultural ideal that to reuse is to be "cheap."

Compounding this is the fact that we keep waste out of sight, so we rarely have to think about the problem. I saw a truck loaded with fairly new, crushed cars and realized that the ease with which we can dispose of things helps us never think about where all this goes?!

Love this video. As a species, we simply must learn to better address our "throw-awaay ways."

Hey Amy,
I seriously need a lesson in composting. Please teach me. Where can I access your curriculum when it is done? In the mean time, I think you'd really enjoy the video on the homepage of this website. It is an eloquent yet simple explanation of what we do with all the stuff we consume. I really enjoyed it and found it extremely educational. I hope you do too.
